Raleigh, N.C. — Lake Dam Road has now been closed for three years because of structural deficiencies.
Joe Matthews said he is even more frustrated now by the inconvenient detour.
“It’s the three-year anniversary, and still there still hasn’t been anything done out here,” Joe Matthews said.
“There’s a lot of people here, and it’s a big inconvenience to go around it.” Matthews said.
Eric Lamb, the city’s transportation planning manager, said the plan has been delayed for several reasons, including the city being unprepared for the emergency closure.
Planners also decided to build a larger bridge and have been dealing with right-of-way and utility concerns.
“The project has taken a little longer to get the full design completed,” Lamb said. “We’re looking to put this project out on the street for bids by late spring and the goal is to have it open by early next year.”
There is good news for drivers. They soon will get a nearby alternate route.
The Department of Transportation had to close the Trailwood Road bridge early last year because of safety concerns. The new one is almost finished and should be open in the next few weeks.
Matthews is looking forward to some relief.
