Cape Fear and E.E. Smith improved to 5-1 overall and remained unbeaten through three games of Patriot 4-A/3-A Conference action with wins Friday night.
Cape Fear got two early touchdown runs from quarterback Justice Galloway-Velazquez to set the tone in a 42-6 win over Gray’s Creek. Zaire Boykin led all rushers with 140 yards, including a nine-yard score. Gray’s Creek dropped to 0-6, 0-3.
Xeavier Bullock threw for 212 yards and three scores on 9-for-11 passing and Rahsaan Young rushed for 119 as the Golden Bulls blasted Douglas Byrd 47-6. Byrd (0-6, 0-3) scored on the game’s final play on a 12-yard pass from John Carroll to Jajuan Boykin.
• Terry Sanford 38, Overhills 13 — In Spring Lake, Travis Boney recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown and the Bulldogs took down the Jaguars in Patriot play. Dorian Clark rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown in the win for the Bulldogs (4-1, 1-1).
• Trinity Christian 68, Charlotte Victory Christian 0 — The Crusaders used two safeties and a fumble and interception returns to help build a 44-0 first-quarter lead in improving to 5-0. Chavon McEachern rushed for 105 yards in the victory, defensive lineman Zovon Lindsay scored on a 12-yard fumble return and JayTreal Smith took an interception 31 yards for a score.
