DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior cornerback Bryon Fields Jr. earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors following the Blue Devils’ 27-17 win over North Carolina this past Saturday, announced on Monday by the league office.
Fields Jr., a 5-11, 185-pound native of Charlotte, N.C., recorded four tackles, one interception and one pass breakup as Duke rallied from a 17-13 deficit in the fourth quarter to retain the Victory Bell.
With Duke holding a 20-17 advantage late in the fourth quarter, Fields Jr. returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown to push the cushion to 10 points and establish the school’s all-time record for interception returns for scores with four, bettering the previous standard of three set by Wyatt Smith (1988-91) and John Talley (2003-06).
The ACC’s other weekly honors included Clemson’s Travis Etienne (Rookie), Virginia’s Kurt Benkert (Offensive Back) and Andre Levrone (Receiver), Georgia Tech’s Parker Braun (Offensive Lineman), N.C. State’s Bradley Chubb (Defensive Lineman), Syracuse’s Parris Bennett (Linebacker) and Pittsburgh’s Quadree Henderson (Specialist).
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday night at 7 p.m., by hosting No. 14 Miami on ESPN.
