DURHAM, N.C. – @DukeMBB, the official Twitter account of the Duke men’s basketball program, continued to cement its position atop the college basketball social media landscape on Monday when it became the first collegiate athletics team to surpass two million Twitter followers.
The Blue Devils’ official Twitter account became the first collegiate team account to hit the one-million follower mark in February 2017, and needed just seven months to attract another million fans to the account.
Since its inception in October 2016 with approximately 635,000 followers, @DukeMBB’s Twitter following has grown 215.0 percent. During that time, @DukeMBB has averaged 21.4 million impressions, 1.4 million engagements and 874,000 video views per month on Twitter.
In the 30 days leading up to the attainment of the two million-follower mark, the @DukeMBB account experienced a 6.2 percent increase in followers.
“By reaching two million followers on Twitter, Duke Basketball continues to reach unprecedented heights in its mission to promote our program, Coach K and the talented young players who wear the Duke jersey,” said Nolan Smith, Duke Basketball special assistant and social media team member. “We are fortunate to have a creative team working behind the scenes to put out fresh and exciting content daily, which keeps our fans engaged and excited to see what comes next.
