Pinecrest finished as the state runner-up in the NCHSAA 4-A girls’ golf championship, held Monday and Tuesday at Pinehurst.
The Patriots, powered by Jaclyn Kenzel’s rounds of 76 and 73, finished seven strokes back from winner Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons. Kenzel’s 149 total was good enough for a tie for third place in the individual competition.
Jennifer Chang of Raleigh Athens Drive followed Monday’s round of 69 with a 70 on Tuesday to become the first golfer to win four girls’ 4-A individual state championships.
Cape Fear was the top region finisher in the 3-A competition, played at Foxfire. Colts sophomore Toni Blackwell carded rounds of 83 and 81 to finished in 12th place.
