Raleigh, NC (Dec. 15) – Defensive stalwarts James Hickman (Sr./Antioch, CA) and Chasz Cosby (Sr./Charlotte, NC) of Saint Augustine’s University are nominees for the Cliff Harris Award which is presented annually to the nation’s top small college defensive player.
Hickman, an All-CIAA first team linebacker, led the conference in tackles (92) and tackles per game (9.2). Cosby, an All-CIAA first team lineman, ranked fifth in the CIAA in tackles (75), tied for fourth in sacks (7) and ranked seventh in tackles for loss (13). He led all CIAA defensive linemen in tackles.
Both players helped the Falcons tie for the best conference mark (5-2) in the CIAA Southern Division this season. It was their highest division finish in recent memory.
The finalists for the award will be announced next week and the winner will be chosen next Saturday, Dec. 23. A selection committee of former football greats, including NFL Hall of Famer Roger
Staubach, will select the winner from the nominee list. The top vote-getter from NCAA Divisions II, III and NAIA will also be announced.
The winner will be honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet in Little Rock, AR, on Jan.
