Raleigh, N.C. — A man died of a medical emergency while in the custody of Raleigh police, the department said Thursday.
Raleigh police officers conducted a traffic stop around 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Rose Lane, which is in eastern part of the city, the department said. Two men were taken into custody on drug-related charges.
While in custody, one of the men started to have a medical emergency. Officers called EMS, which took the man to WakeMed.
The man, who was not identified while authorities try to contact his family, died several hours later. Police did not release the nature of the medical emergency.
Police contacted the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the man’s death.
