Northwood Temple forward Immanuel Bates has earned a nomination to the McDonald’s All-American Game.

The 6-foot-10, 200-pound big man announced his commitment to N.C. State in September, leaving offers from eight Division I programs, including a final four that included Georgetown, Georgia Tech and South Carolina.

Bates, who spent his ninth- and 10th-grade years at Jack Britt before transferring to Northwood, is the only nominee from the Cape Fear region. In fact, the list of in-state nominees seems to skew to the west this year, with 13 of the 17 North Carolina picks coming from schools west of Durham.

On the girls’ side, Clinton guard Alex Canady and Lumberton guard London Thompson earned nominations.

Thompson is averaging 16.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Pirates. Canady, a key part of Clinton’s 2017 NCHSAA 2-A state championship team, has been limited to six games for the Dark Horses this season. She’s scoring 15.7 points per game and averaging 5.5 steals.

The McDonald’s All American Games are schedule for March 28 in Atlanta. This is the 41st annual boys’ game and the 17th annual girls’ game.

The final rosters for the games will be released Tuesday.
