Durham, N.C. — A Durham man has been charged with robbing two people at gunpoint during transactions involving the Letgo app, police said.

Shelly Maurice Fields, 19, faces two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was being held Friday in Durham County jail under a $250,000 bond.

Letgo is a free, person-to-person, mobile classifieds app that allows users to buy from, sell to and chat with others locally.

A man told police that he had contacted someone through the app to buy a gaming system and had agreed to meet on Sylvias Court. When he went there on Dec. 26, a man approached him, pulled out a gun and demanded money, he told police.

A second man arranged to buy a car through the app and went to the 2700 block of Ross Road on Dec. 27 to meet the seller, he told police. When he pulled into a driveway and got out of his car, he said, a man approached him, pointed a gun at him and demanded money. He told police that he pulled out a knife and fought with the gunman until a second man approached and went to the victim’s car and took phones from his relatives inside.
