DURHAM, N.C. – After averaging 23.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in a pair of wins last week, Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III was named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Bagley achieved double-doubles in a pair of conference wins last week, scoring 16 points with 15 rebounds at Pitt Wednesday, while pouring in 30 points, with 11 boards, three assists, three blocks, and a career-high four steals in Saturday’s win over Wake Forest.
Bagley has tied Duke’s freshman record for double-doubles with 14, while his five 30-point games this season are an ACC freshman record.
The 6-foot-11 rookie from Phoenix, Ariz., leads the ACC in both scoring (22.5) and rebounding (11.7). He is the only player in the country averaging 22.0+ points and 11.0+ rebounds.
Over the last four-plus seasons, Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 39 of a possible 78 weeks, including seven of the 10 weeks this season. Bagley is one of 10 different Blue Devils to have won the award at least once in that time.
No. 5 Duke (15-2, 3-2) faces No. 25 Miami tonight in Coral Gables at 7 p.m.
